When I was in Europe several years ago, I was surprised at how long we were in a restaurant and it took forever. I asked the waiter why and he replied that the restaurant doesn’t rush anyone, they want you to enjoy your food and let the food digest.
Hi Elizabeth. Thank you for your comment. I noticed the same thing. In the U.S., it seems like waitresses are pressured to ‘turn over tables’ to get the most people in and out. In France, however, I don’t recall ever receiving the check for a meal until I specifically asked for one.
